The 7th Yangtze River Delta Graduate Students Academic Forum on Theatre, Film and Television

On November 2, 2014, the two-day 7th Yangtze River Delta Postgraduate Academic Forum on Drama, Film and Television was successfully concluded at the Wisteria Lodge of Shanghai Theatre Academy.

The forum was hosted by the Postgraduate Department of Shanghai Theatre Academy, and organized by the Postgraduate Association of Shanghai Theatre Academy and Wisteria Society. This year coincided with the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth, and the theme of the forum was “The Never-ending Shakespeare” to commemorate the event and express the high respect to Shakespeare. The forum was hosted by Mr Liu Qing, Deputy Director of the Postgraduate Department of Shanghai Theatre Academy.

Professor Shi Zhikang of Shanghai International Studies University was the guest speaker, and he gave a wonderful keynote speech entitled “Shakespeare Forever” to the participants. A panel of expert critics consisting of Professor Xiao Ping from Shanghai Normal University, Professor Lian Youping from Donghua University and Professor Liu Ming Hou from Shanghai Theatre Academy gave careful and detailed comments on the students’ papers. In the five paper presentations, students expressed their views on the life and creation of Shakespeare and the performance practice of his plays, in terms of aesthetics, literature and stage presentation, focusing on a wide range of topics but with different ideas.
